Critical Change in Border Trade: Ras al-Ayn and Hammam Customs Gates Closed
Date: March 4, 2026
Source: Damascus Embassy Trade Counselor / Syrian Customs General Directorate
According to official reports from the Trade Counselor of the Damascus Embassy, two key customs gates used for trade with Syria have been decided to be closed. The Ras al-Ayn gate (opposite Ceylanpınar) and the Hammam gate (opposite Zeytindalı) have ceased operations as of the end of February 2026.
Reasons for Closure:
Official statements cite financial reasons, including operational costs, the proximity of alternative border gates, and the fact that the custom areas are not state-owned as the primary factors for this decision.
Impact on Logistics:
Exporters utilizing these routes must now redirect their logistics planning to the nearest alternative gates. This shift may affect border crossing times and transportation costs due to potential congestion at other entry points.
